RacesSpring is well and truly in the air as we get two Group 1’s at Caulfield this Saturday. Our bookmakers have targeted the Sir Rupert Clarke as their main race where many of the favoured runners are seeking their first group one win.

The bookies have not only given us their best Sir Rupert Clarke bet, but they have labeled their day’s best, value runner and lay of the day.

A good mix of top tips which should ensure some exciting racing across all venues.

Sir Rupert Clarke bookmakers tips

WilliamHill.com.au: Stratum Star at $7

“Shaped well at his two runs back from a break and should be ready to peak here. Should relish the weight relief back in a handicap and despite the wide gate should take holding out.”

Bet365.com: Amorino at $26

“Wasn’t beaten far down the straight at Flemington last start and while second-up record doesn’t look flash, he hasn’t been far away. Drawn to get an easy run and at the big price looks a nice each way chance.”

CrownBet.com.au: Disposition at $3.60

“Has clearly fully settled into life in Victoria now. His win in the Tontonan was full of class. It’s also worth remembering his second in the CS Hayes resulted in Kermadec finishing behind him.”

Sportsbet.com.au: Disposition at $3.70

“Improving galloper in a hot camp with Damien Oliver on. Draws an ideal gate and gets a great run off a hot speed. Will be ready to pounce on the turn and will be too good form them with a lightweight.”

Day’s best tips and value horses

Sportsbet – Miss Gunpowder at $5.50. Race 5, Caulfield.

“Promising filly that will be at her top for this race after already having three runs this time in. She’ll map forward and the main dangers will all have to give her a head start. She’s a great each-way bet.”

Value runner – Tulsa at $6.50. Race 6, Caulfield

“Flew last start after getting back in a slow pace. Will get a hot tempo here and finds an average three-year-old bunch. Will be powering home late for Ben Melham.”

CrownBet – Muraqaba at $3.30. Race 2, Caulfield.

“Unbeaten. Latest win showed he can overcome trouble. Love it when the early wave of Sydney horses hit Caulfield. Blake Shinn has followed him down without a ride in the Group I races. Great sign.”

Value runner – Extra Choice at $21. Race 6, Caulfield.

“Liked the way he finished the race off at his last start, clearly this is a step up in class, but looks well above average and a good run here will see him shorten for the Guineas and Derby.”

Bet365.com – Ninth Legion at $5. Race 7, Rosehill.

“Had the run of the race when resuming with a close finishing third beating home Vashka and Messene. Drawn well again here and with the benefit of that run looks primed to be in the finish.”

Value runner – Jameka at $10. Race 5, Caulfield.

“Tried hard first-up after travelling wide throughout to fight on strongly in finishing third behind Stay With Me. Drawn a bit better here and with the right run should be great value in what looks a good race.”

WilliamHill – Craftiness at $2. Race 3, Caulfield.

“Sydneysider that shaped well at his first run back from a break in Group company recently. Drawn to get the gun run and despite having his first run the reverse way of going should prove very hard to beat.”

Value runner – Bold Circle at $15. Race 8, Rosehill.

“Been very consistent this preparation without winning and due for a change of luck. Just nosed out behind the Cameron winner two starts back and looks over the odds at his current quote.”

Bookmakers’ lay of the day

Kansas Sunflower (Race 2, Caulfield)

“Been a beaten favourite her last three starts and now attempts a trip she is unknown at. Strikes a weak race here but looks under the odds at her current quote.”

Quick Snitzel (Race 8, Brisbane)

“Drawn nicely but has had plenty of chances to breakthrough since its last win which was just over a year ago. Will appreciate the drop in grade but I’ll wait to see him win again before jumping back on.”

Ready For Victory (Race 6, Caulfield)

“One of the most talented horses in Australia, but always has an excuse. Crying out for 1400m, Oliver rides again, and should win, but there could be a bolter amongst the lightly raced brigade.”

Ready For Victory (Race 6, Caulfield)

“Still does plenty wrong in his races and has hit a flat spot at both runs this prep. There are plenty of lightly-raced horses to contend with here and we feel that one could improve enough to challenge the favourite.”
